Introduction
Germantown, a major stop on the stagecoach route north from Cincinnati to Dayton, is home to the Florentine Hotel, the second oldest hotel in the state.
Summary
German-speaking families from Pennsylvania settled Germantown in August 1804. Although there are five Germantowns in the United States, Germantown, Ohio is thought to be the first such named city. The German language was the major language spoken in Germantown until the early 1900s. Much of Germantown's downtown has been declared a National Historic Site and National Historical Preservation District. Housing ranges from stately older homes, well-landscaped and preserved, to newer developments that have been designed to harmonize with the historic ambiance of the town. This is a town where leisurely living has flourished.
Transportation
Germantown is located on St. Rts. 4 and 725. It is within ten miles of I-75 and 20 miles of I-70. The Dayton International Airport is approximately 25 miles away in Vandalia.

Several hospitals are within easy access of Germantown. Hospitals include Miami Valley Hospital, Children's Medical Center and Sycamore Hospital.
Shopping
Shopping malls within a short drive from the area include Dayton Mall, the Mall at Fairfield Commons and Towne Mall. Local merchants provide general merchandise and services conveniently located for residents.
Recreation
Outdoor activities keep residents busy in numerous city parks including Veteran's Memorial Park, which has a community swimming pool, Kercher Community Park, with four baseball/softball fields, soccer fields and tennis courts, Hillcrest Park and Germantown Reserve & Nature Center. Athletic programs for children include Junior Spartan football and Valley View youth baseball and soccer. The Jamaica Run Golf Club, an 18 hole public golf course, is located in Germantown.
